Rustic Kitchen Design Tips
Tuesday, July 02, 2013If you are a fan of rustic style and you would like to bring it into your kitchen there are a number of things you can do. A rustic kitchen is really homely and looks great in homes of all ages, from ancient cottages to modern flats and apartments.
Here are a few tips for you if you want to create a stylish rustic kitchen in your home whether you are designing kitchens Livingston, Liverpool or Leeds:
Plants
Every rustic kitchen has to have a selection of plants inside. This can range from normal houseplants which give a home a more lived in and natural appearance, to herbs that you can use in your cooking. Fresh herbs are attractive and fragrant and it will be useful to have them ready to use in your kitchen.
Reclaimed wood
If you want a rustic kitchen you also need some reclaimed wood in there. And in a kitchen this could be anything from a chopping board to a butcher’s block and even your cupboard doors. If you have got a penchant for DIY then get down to a used timber yard and pick out some quality old wood. It will be fairly cheap and it will help you achieve a great look in your home.
Hardwood floor
If you have a wooden floor you should really make the most of it. Some people have lovely wooden floors hidden under lino, so if you do make sure that you rip it up and show your wood off. It will add a look of quality and give your kitchen a real rustic feel.
Natural light
It is important for kitchens to be as light as possible and to get a rustic look, natural light is the answer. If you are making big changes to your kitchen then install large windows so that your room is nicely illuminated by natural daylight. You can also choose retro light fittings and lamps for evenings to light up your room without compromising on the look you are going for.
Farmhouse sink
A farmhouse sink is a fantastic way to get a retro feel in the kitchen. These deep porcelain basins scream great quality and they are built to last too, so you can rest assured that once you have bought one it will last you years. And even better, you can pick up these sinks second hand at great prices from antique shops and online.
