The Biggest Worries When Moving Home and How to Combat Them
Monday, August 03, 2015
I’ve covered a lot about moving in my latest posts, in the hope to make any house move a little easier. However, it’s still normal to get worried about leaving your old home behind. Even with all the guides in the world! In fact, some researchers say that moving is one of the most stressful things you can do in your lifetime. So, if you weren’t worried then it would probably be a little strange. I thought it would be a good idea to look at some of the most common fears that come about when moving. Along with some top tips on how to combat them. Hopefully they can put your mind at rest a little.

Forgetting Stuff
With so much to do during a house move, it’s quite typical to worry that you might have forgotten something. In fact, a lot of people do forget something! Even if it’s something silly, like forgetting to tell your cable company your new address. The best remedy for this is to make a checklist. You can find lots of template lists online to get you started. A lot of them are split into weekly tasks, so you know what to do and when. Print one of these checklists off and stick it to your fridge. Keep checking back to make sure you’ve got everything covered.
Moving to a New City
I’ve already spoken about this in another post, but it’s a good idea to go over it again. Moving to a new city can be extremely daunting, if you haven’t visited much before. You may not know where everything is. You won’t know the locals. It can all be quite scary. The best thing to do is try and visit as much as you can, before the move. Scout out all of the local restaurants, shops and amenities. Try to introduce yourself to the neighbours before you move in too.
The Removal Firm
This is another common worry for many of us. What if the removal firm isn’t up to scratch? Hopefully, you will have asked friends and family for recommendations. However, if you’re moving somewhere you don’t know then you may also not have heard of the removal firm. Look for companies like http://www.newyorklocalmovers.com, who are specialists in a particular area. You can also read reviews to see what other people have said. This should make you feel more at ease, when trusting them with all of your stuff.
Changing Address
Are you worried you might lose your post when you move? This can be a big concern if you tend to get through important mail. Such as bank statements! Luckily, it’s one of the easiest things to solve. Simply get in touch with your local postal service and ask them to redirect your mail. They’ll ask you what date you’re moving and where to. You can then get all of your post redirected until you’ve updated your address with everyone.
Have you been worrying about these things? It’s quite normal if you have! This guide should hopefully put some of those worries to the back of your mind, however. Good luck in your house move!
