The Home Upgrades I'm Treating Myself To Over The Next 12 Months
Monday, August 03, 2015
Every homeaholic is desperate to improve their house. If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the lookout for beautiful new furniture and new interior design tricks. But, there’s only so much you can do with a tin of paint. I love my flat, but there are a few things that are starting to bug me. They’re bigger jobs that need a little more money, and a lot more time! But, I firmly believe that everyone should treat themselves now and then. We all work hard, why not give yourself a little something?
Over the next twelve months, I’m treating myself to a whole host of home upgrades. It will take my apartment to the next level, which I’m very excited about! My plan is to do one at a time and spread the cost (and the mess!) Each one will improve my little corner of the world, and make everything that little bit nicer. If I’m lucky, I might even add value to the flat. That would be a lovely bonus! Let’s dive straight in, shall we?
Air conditioning
I’ve wanted air conditioning for as long as I’ve owned this flat. I love the cosy feeling of a small space in the winter. But, it’s so hot in the summer! The apartment traps the heat, and it gets hotter than an oven in here. So, I’ve already got some quotes from a heating and air conditioning company. Next summer, I will definitely have air conditioning to keep things nice and cool. There’s only so many iced drinks I can wash down to keep my temperature low!
A new kitchen
This is the big project that I’ve had my eye on for a while now. My kitchen is the heart of the apartment. It’s where I do all the cooking, eating, and entertaining. It’s functional, but now I want to inject some character and personality into it. I’m thinking of going for a rustic theme on the cabinets and installing a big butler sink. I’ve been planning this one for a while, but I think it’s going to come together later this year. It’s all about keeping the cost down, but finding a style I love. I’m going to love coming home every day when this one’s finished!
New windows
I live in a fairly old flat, which means the windows are starting to get a little outdated. By upgrading them to double glazing, I’ll make the whole apartment a bit more modern. Not only that, but it will save me a fortune on energy bills! Double glazed windows are much more energy efficient. They keep the heat in during the winter, and keep the cold out.
Outside decking area
Owning a flat means you don’t get much outside space. But, I want to make the most of what I’ve got! I’ve always wanted a small space to throw parties and invite friends round. Hopefully, a small decking or patio area will give me just enough room to do that. This might be a logistical nightmare, but I’m determined to make it happen!
What home upgrades are you treating yourself to this year? Let me know in the comments below!
