Curb Appeal: What it is and How You Can Improve it!
Thursday, September 17, 2015
Have you heard the term ‘curb appeal’ but you’re not sure what it means? I’m here to help you! Basically, the term curb appeal refers to how appealing your home is from the outside. A place with broken bricks and a weed-filled lawn won’t have a very high curb appeal, whereas the opposite would. You can improve your curb appeal fairly easily; there’s a method to suit all budgets and timeframes. People usually go about improving their curb appeal when they are thinking of selling their home, to make it more appealing to buyers. However, you can do it anytime you like! Here’s how you can improve your curb appeal in a variety of ways:
Tidy Up Your Garden
By simply tidying up your garden, you can make a huge difference to your overall curb appeal. All you may need to do is get rid of any broken ornaments and pull up the weeds. The bigger the budget and the more time you have for this, the better.
Plant More Flowers
Planting more flowers to make your garden look more luxurious and colourful is a great idea. Just make sure you research flowers that are particularly good for the time of year, and that you have enough time to maintain them. There are lots of flowers that are low-maintenance if you don’t have much time.
Install Lighting
Installing lighting to the garden will allow you to stay safe after hours, and this is a very appealing thought to potential buyers too. Nobody wants to return home from work in the dead of night and not see what they’re doing. Solar lights can make a big difference to your curb appeal!
Fix Broken Slats and Bricks
Go outside of your home and look at it as if you were a passer by. Do you have broken roof slats or bricks? Replace/fix them if possible. Some roofing pros say that in some cases, you might be better off completely replacing your roof with something sturdier and more effective. However, it all depends on your budget and the look you’re going for.
Replace or Paint Your Door
How does your door look from the outside? If it looks a little worse for wear, consider replacing it with something tidier or more modern. If you want to give your home a unique look, you could even consider painting it a statement colour. The door is the first thing your guests will see, so make sure you pay special attention to it.
Get a Welcome Mat
A welcome mat never goes amiss, so find one with a cheery message to accompany your great looking new door!
Wash Your Car
Wait...the car? Yep! The car makes all the difference to your curb appeal to. It’s all subconscious, but if your car looks nice and clean then it gives off a better overall impression. If you’re planning on selling your home, one of the best things you can do is give your car a good scrub before letting people take a look around. They probably won’t even acknowledge the car, but subconsciously you’re making a great impression.
