My Tips For Personalising The Home
Sunday, October 25, 2015
Regardless of the time of year, I always think it is important to show off the home that you want to show. I love the fact that I am unique, and I try to imbibe as much of myself in my home as possible. I just don’t see the point in homes that look exactly like the catalogue.
There is no doubt that it isn’t easy to achieve. In fact, I make it sound like it is the easiest thing in the world when the opposite is true. Still, it is not impossible! Just take a look at my tips below and see for yourself!
Custom Build
I suppose we should start at the very beginning. For all you readers who are in the process of building their home from scratch, congratulations and good luck! Building a home from the ground up is something I have wanted to do because I love the thought of controlling every aspect of the process. In the end, I know that I will have the house I want and not have to buy one and then transform it. The key to making the project successful, as far as I understand, is hiring the perfect custom home builder. It stands to reason that they can make or break your home as they are the ones who are attempting to turn your dream into a reality.
Warm And Happy
The cynical ones out there will say that not everyone is warm and happy. But, I think that on the inside, we all love to smile and feel happy. So, even though it is a bit of a generalisation, I am going out on a limb to say that we should all reflect our blissful personalities. I love a home that makes me feel comfortable, so treat it as an extension of your personality. If your home is happy and comfortable, so are you.
Add Nostalgia
The past can often get in the way of the future. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t like to remember the good times like everyone else. Our memories are not only precious, but they are incredibly personal. They are ours and no one can take those memories or experiences away. For me, they are the best way to decorate and make the house unique. I once came across a friend that used to leave reminders of her time she spent travelling in every room. From the bathroom to the kitchen, there would be a map or a globe or a souvenir.
Exploit Your Hobby
Do you have a hobby? The odds are that you do have a hobby, and the odds are that you can use this hobby to add personality. Most hobbies are something that has been a part of our lives for years. So, it only makes sense that they become a part of our homes, too. The best example I have seen is an amateur painter who put her paintings up in her house. But, it can be anything from music to sport.
Nothing says originality better than a hobby that represents a huge chunk of your life.
