How to Plan a House Move with Young Children
Friday, February 05, 2016
Moving can be challenging for adults, so
it’s no surprise that it’s an even more stressful experience for children,
especially those who are young. Therefore, if you’re planning on moving to a
new home and you have young children in your family, you should take the proper
precautions to ensure the move goes as smoothly as possible for everyone
involved.
Continue reading for a few helpful tips
that will assist you if you’re planning on moving with young children.
Talk About the Move
The first step you need to take in order to prepare your kids for a move is to simply discuss it with them. Give your young children
as much information as possible, answering all of their questions truthfully
and completely while being receptive to their negative and positive reactions.
Another good way to bring the move up in
discussion is by actually involving your kids in the planning process as much
as possible. This will make them feel as though they’re actual participants in
the move, rather than simply being forced to go through with it.
Go House Hunting with the Kids
In addition to talking about the move with
your kids and involving them in the planning process, you can also go ahead and
take them house hunting with you. Prior to doing so, however, you can also have
everyone in the family put together a wish list of what they all want from
their new home.
For example, do your kids want their own
playroom, or their own separate rooms if they’re currently bunking together?
They may want to have a big backyard for a swimming pool, or they may want to
live in a community with a lot of other kids so they can play outside a lot.
Get the wish list together and search for homes online together before actually making
appointments with realtors and bringing your kids to see the homes in person.
Let Your Kids Pack Their Own Box
Giving your kids their own boxes that they
can decorate and pack with their favourite things is another way to get them
involved and excited about the move.
Let them bring whatever they want with
them, as getting rid of things that they care about could make the process feel
less like something to look forward to and more like something to dread.
Make the Move a Stress-Free Experience
Planning ahead and hiring the right moving
experts will ensure that the move goes smoothly and is a stress-free experience
for everyone involved. For example, do your research into the best domestic removal company
that will help you pack everything and move it to your new house with ease.
Remember, the less stressed you get, the
less stressed your kids will remain. On the other hand, the more frazzled you
become, the more likely it is that your kids, too, will end up feeling anxious
and uneasy.
When you’re ready to move, as long as you
involve your kids and prepare them well, the entire process will go well and
everyone will be okay with it.
