Sorting Out Your Home Before You Go on Vacation
Sunday, March 13, 2016
Are you prepared for your next vacation? Well, you might be
prepared in the sense of being packed up and having your passport to hand. But,
is your home ready to be left alone for a few weeks? This is something not
enough people consider before they go away. Think about the different things you need to sort out at home before you go away. Here
is a list of a few of the big ones to help get you started.
Empty the Fridge
Going on vacation is usually something you do for a week or so.
And, as such, you need to make sure there is nothing perishable at home. That
means you’ve got to empty the fridge of anything that might go out of date. This
means things like milk, meat and other perishable products. Don’t have them in
the fridge when you leave because they will go out of date. This might cause
problems with contamination and will certainly cause a bad smell in your fridge.
Do Your Chores
You need to make sure that you are up to date with all your
chores before you leave. There are going to be things around the house that need
to be done before you leave. Even something simple like the washing, ironing and
hoovering. This is all stuff you don’t want to do when you come home. Think
about it this way, wouldn’t you rather come home to a fresh, clean and welcoming
house? Make sure you get all the annoying things out of the way before you go.
Give the home a clean, and change your bedding. This will cushion the blow of
the post-holiday blues when you return. You can simply relax and unwind without
having to worry about sorting out the property.
Make Sure You’ve Got Everything
It’s important to ensure you don’t leave anything behind when
you go on vacation. You need to ensure you’ve packed everything you need. This
is important because it means you won’t need to come back to the home before you
go. Make a list of everything you need to take with you from home. Go up into
the loft and grab the suitcases. Then you can start to gradually pack as the
days go by. This is an important part of preparing for your vacation in the
smoothest way possible.
Make Sure the Home is Locked Up
The most important to do before you leave for vacation is to
make sure the home is secure. Because you’re not going to be there, you have to
make sure security is at a maximum. Now, there are a lot of things you can and
should do to make your home more secure before you leave. You could get in touch
with a locksmith to
get your locks upgraded before you go. You need to go around the home and make
sure all the windows are securely fastened as well. Make sure you set your
intruder alarm before you leave to add extra security to the property.
Turn Power Off
Something that a lot of people forget to do is turn the power off when they leave. Now, of course, you’re not
going to be here, so you need to make sure you aren’t wasting energy. Go around
the home and make sure you turn all the power off at the mains. This will save
on energy and also guard against the risk of fire in the home. You might decide
you want to have some lights come on via a timer for security purposes. If this
is the case, then you’ll have to remember not to turn the power off for those!
Pet Sitter
If you own pets, you’re unlikely to be taking them with you on
vacation. And that means you need someone to come over and make sure they are
okay. Enlist a trusted friend with the job of popping over and checking on your
pets. They will be able to feed them, take them for walks if necessary, and
ensure they are okay. So, it’s essential to make sure you get someone involved.
Pets are wonderful household additions, but they need to be looked after. So a
pet sitter would be the perfect way of achieving this.
House Sitter
As well as getting someone in to look after your pet you might
consider a house sitter. If you have a very nice home, and you are worried about
leaving it unattended, you need to get a house sitter. Make sure it’s someone you trust, and
someone with a good reputation. You might wish to go on a referral from a friend
or family member. Choosing someone to take of your home for you when you aren’t
there is a big deal. So you have to make sure it’s something you get right. A
house sitter is a way of providing you with extra peace of mind that your home
is safe and secure.
Take Out the Trash
You need to make sure you leave a clean and tidy home to return to. That means you’ve got to
clean the place and take out the trash. Leaving your bin full and going away
without emptying it is a recipe for disaster. You might attract mice as a
result, and you will return to a very smelly home! Make sure you remember to
take the trash out before you leave. You might consider placing the trash bag by
the door, so you don’t leave without it. This is something that seems small and
insignificant, but can go a long way towards helping.
We all love a vacation now and then, but it’s important to make
sure you have everything prepared before you go. Sure, you’ll need to sort out
stuff for the holiday, but you’re also going to need to get your home ready.
When you go on vacation, you’ll be leaving your home for a while. So you have to
make sure that everything is prepared and up to scratch. Your home needs to be
in a state where you can go away safe in the knowledge that everything will be
okay.
